The Offspring - Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace

Release Date: 06/17/08
Genre: Punk Rock

I knew a guy in High School who said his favorite band was The Offspring. I laughed at him because I though they were a joke band. Then when their Greatest Hits album came out, I gave them a listen. I never knew how many songs I actually knew. "Can't Repeat," "Self Esteem," "The Kids aren't Alright." All awesome. I could never get into their other albums as a whole, but this is their new one, so yeah.

Review: The first three songs are really good. They just sound anthemly and they have a catchy chorus. Plus, I never felt that his vocals were great, but he sounded cool in these songs. "Nothingtown" is alright with me too. But everything else is fairly forgettable in my opinion.

"A Lot Like Me" sounds very Linkin Park, the mediocre one. It's not entirely bad. But it's so similar to another song, it makes me wonder if the band knew they were ripping off "What I've Done" or was it a coincidences. And both "Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?" and "Fix You" are pretty gay. And I'm not taking the easy way out just because they are ballads and it's not expected of them. They just sound pretty bland. I'm sure Sum 41 fans will like it.

Summary: Album is half good.

Key Tracks: Half-Truism, You're Gonna Go Far, Kid, Nothingtown
Rating: 5/10
