OH MY GIRL - Dear OHMYGIRL

Release Date: May 10th, 2021
Genre: kpop

I'll keep this short, I don't know much about Oh My Girl except when I discovered them from Nonstop, that ep felt like these girls were veterans and could do no wrong. I tried doing a deeper dive into them, but only their title tracks were songs I thought were worth listening to.

Review: The title track here, "Dun Dun Dance" grew on me. I was tired of choruses that focus on repeating a syllable. I'm honestly not sure if I would have liked the song if it was by a lesser known group. I had the same feeling when I heard "Dumhdurum" by a Apink because both songs don't hit you hard. Then "Dear you" has the girls use their softer, deeper vocals, and I love the way it feels. It's very low-key, kind of like a person talking to themself. The melody is really nice.

"My doll" sounds weird, but it's so wildly different that it causes me to clear my thoughts and listen to the weird, screeching sounds it has. From the few words I can pick out, they say "i'm so sorry" a lot, so it makes me feel a hint of regret. With "Quest," it very much feels like a video game song, I originally thought it was my favorite, but it got tiresome for me. Mimi's rap on this song feels weird, but dang, I love the soft deep vocals.

"Who comes who knows" had this bouncy, bossa nova sound. It's so relaxing. It's definitely a deep cut that only hardcore fans will like. Finally with "Swan," it's alright. It mislead me to think it was going to be a catchy song, but it has an enjoyable build up, but it's short.

Summary
: Not what I expected after Nonstop, but hearing the middle 4 songs consecutively made me feel like this mini album was very uniformed. I like hearing girls sing in their soft voices.
