Back in 2019, when I had my bedroom pop phase, listening to stuff like Clairo and beabadoobee and mxmtoon, I discovered this person on spotify and was really confused because she only had one song, but it had a million plays. Her presence on youtube was nonexistence, and said song, "forever & always" was uploaded by someone else. Who was this person?
in 2020, she released another song that was just as good, "Lucky." Then I track her soundcloud down and it actually bummed me out because Zeph didn't feel like professional, she's just uploading random melodies for fun. I lost track of her until last month when I found out about this ep.
Review:
There's only six songs here and it took me a while to get use to the fully develop, electronic sounds. Maybe the album cover is swaying me, but the first two songs are really crisp and I don't think it's a wind chimes, but some of the sounds sounds like it's a windy day just creating these notes.
"friends or not" is cool, feels like it's suppose to be a highlight, I know it has a music video, but something about it makes me feel its too polish. the 4th track is something I hope she explores more. this ep has upbeat music, but I want the mood to be sad. I like her older stuff when it sounded like nobody was listening and her thoughts were just flowing out, this song reminded me of that.
"are you?" is amazing. it's polish, but it works for me. I like it when she sings fast like she's rambling. the rhythm feels nice. Then on the last track, "scared of everything" has this nice loop. it's kind of dance-able, i like it because it sounds good.
Tracklist/Scorecard:
1 un-unnoticed 8/10
2. miss me 8/10
3. friends or not 7/10
4 could you love me while i hate myself 9/10
5. are you? 9/10
6. scared of everything 8/10
Summary:
6 songs, easy to listen to pop. sounds very happy and upbeat and her voice is so angelic. wish she had more acoustic songs because nothing here really blew my mind the way "forever & always" did, but i'm looking forward to what she does next.
