Fontaines D.C. - Skinty Fia

Release Date: April 22th, 2022

I like listening to albums I have no business listening to.  They got an 85 on metacritic, either my mind will be blown or I can form my opinion rather fast.

Review:  and i was ready to declare this album to be your typical The Smiths or Interpol type of sounding album, maybe britpop?  i don't know, but the 4th track, which also happens to be their first single from the album, "Jackie down the line," finally sounded listenable. I think the moody gothic drowning sound was making me label them as your overrated UK band. Something clicked with that 4th track, and i felt like i got it.

They arent making pop songs, they are depressed and robotic and numb. The vocals don't even match with the instrumentals sometimes, like it's two separate teams. "The couple across the way" is the most different track here, i think its an accordion, and nothing else. to be honest, it's boring, but it gave the album a needed break. I would say my favorite song belongs to the title track, "Skinty Fia." It just sounds good and the instrumentals don't sound like it's drowning. "I love you" rambles a lot, which sounds cool.

SummaryPost-punk vocals like Interpol always sound dry, so there's that barrier of me liking this album. It's not a very melodic album, it feels slow like you're drowning in words.

Favorite Songs: Roman Holiday, Skinty Fia
Rating: 7/10
