goodbye 2022, here are my favorite albums of the year.
==========
25. Soul Glo - Diaspora Problems
it helps that i rarely seek out hardcore punk music, but it's nice to hear a different voice from this genre, a black man.
24. Black Country, New Road - Ants from Up There
for those that were there, Arcade Fire's debut felt like a momentous experience, and I got that same feeling from this album.
23. Alex G - God Save The Animals
i gotta go back into this guy's discography because i just assumed he was another mac demarco dude, but this album has nice callbacks to late 90s alt rock.
its crazy how young they are when they first received fame, and its even cooler that they sorta reinvented themselves with this record.
21. The Weeknd - Dawn FM
honestly, i don't remember much from this album, but i liked the transitions so it felt like a smooth album from to back.
==========
20. Rosalía - Motomami
this one surprised me, she kept me engaged throughout.
19. Destroyers - Labyrinthitis
i wanted to dismiss this, but i found myself appreciating it.
18. Beach House - Once Twice Melody
i know this is long, but it's hard to fault them for being so consistent.
17. Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time
i wish she was more consistent, but there's still a lot to love here.
16. Grace Ives - Janky Star
with the exception of the last song, she's pop, but not radio pop.
==========
15. JID - The Forever Story
never heard of this guy before, but i thought the album was fire.
14. Animal Collective - Time Skiffs
i gave this album a casual listen early in the year and it just never escaped me.
13. The Beths - Expert in a Dying Field
i love my indie rock with female vocals
12. Marlowe - Marlowe 3
the beats are really good
11. Pool Kids - Pool Kids
feels like two different bands at times.
==========
10. Taylor Swift - Midnights
i'm glad we live in a world where we have too many taylor swift songs than too little.
09. Florist - Florist
quiet folk music.
08. Tomberlin - i don't know who needs to hear this...
quiet person.
07. Yeya Bey - Remember Your North Star
when that pussy is so so good and he still don't love you, lmao
06. Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers
i cannot believe he made a song like we cry together.
==========
05. Charli XCX - Crash
this album is so dang ridiculous
04. Big Thief - Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You
i gave this a listen wondering when i would get bored, and i didn't. and that says a lot for a double album
03. Danger Mouse and Black Thought - Cheat Code
holy shit, this album deserves to be much higher on other people's list.
02. Rachika Nayar - Heaven Come Crashing
no words, just music.i just love being able to travel through the music
01. NIKI - Nicole
i was looking at taylor swift's past opening acts and saw niki's name, and did a deep dive into her and her history and knowing that she used to be youtuber that posted her original songs in her bedroom and how she was inspired by taylor's "from the vault" tracks to revisit her own songs and that intrigued me to check out this album. I don't think it's perfect, the 2nd half can be a bit dry, but this is the album i've grown close to all year.
