girl in red - if i could make it go quiet

Release Date: April 30th, 2021
Genre: indie pop

I discovered her when I had a bedroom pop phase. Her two songs, "summer depression" and "girls" really stood out to me, that I avoided her until she made a proper full length album. Here we are 3 years later, even Taylor Swift approved of it on her IG stories.

Review
: Opening with "Serotonin" is great, it has a nice crunch, but part of me feels lost because I'm past the stage of teenage angst. Then with "Did You Come?" I feel like the melodies are really fun and breezy, but the lyrics are a bit literal with cumming, unless I'm dumb and missed the point. "Body and Mind" reminds me of some spooky witchcraft and it sounds cool.

The next two tracks feel more like the bedroom pop sound where it just feels like a young girl just monologue-ing by herself. "midnight love" is my favorite track, and it looks like it was released a year ago, so that could explain why it sounds the most pure to me. I just like steady it builds and there's no distracting profanity like the earlier tracks. I feel like "You Stupid Bitch" would sound fine at a rock concert, but I found it to be on auto-pilot. It checks the boxes off on a fun song, but it got old fast.

"Rue" has this country sound to it that I found appealing. The last half of the album sorta flowed together, and then it ends on an pretty instrumental track.

Summary
: It's fine, I know I'm not in that age range, but I have to be honest, hearing her cuss makes me question the validity of her emotions, like is it real or just lazy songwriting?  Still, she makes music that's my style so it's an easy album to consume.

: Body and Mind, midnight love, Rue
