Q1 '09: Top Albums/Songs

Oh no!  it's the last day of the month...meaning 1/4 of the year has gone by.  What a terrible blog you have going.  Go update.

So I've been downloading albums from 2000-2003 for the most part of the year.  It's been pretty cool.  Any suggestion would be nice, althought I've already tackled the most oviously choices found on most critic's list.  Radiohead is no longer on my most overrated list.  I finally get Kid A.  Not sure why I was such a hater, maybe cuz I was so sick of alternative rock that their eariler stuff did nothing for me besides the singles, but Kid A kind of clicked for me.  Pretty cool feeling actually.  The New Pornographers and The White Stripes had pretty good albums earlier in the decade too.  I still think The Strokes are overrated, but I've learned to enjoy it somewhat.  Anyways, music is cool.

As for 2009 music, MPP doesn't have that magic it once had back in janurary, but overall, it's still the most solid album beg-end of the year.  Balmorhea released a really good album, but I probarly overplayed it.  Dan Deacon is a huge surprise for me.  I never heard his '07 album, so everything was a huge "how did he come up with this shit?" moment.  pretty rad.  My love for folk is still present.  Emmy the Great is my Laura Marling for the year.  Phosphorescent is my Bonnie Prince.  P.O.S. is my Wale.  BTMI! is my Gaslight.

okay, you get it.  Shitload of music that needs reviewing.  I think I only listen to about 80ish albums so far, so off the top of my head, here are my favorites of the year so far.

1. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
2. Balmorhea - All Is Wild, All Is Silent
3. Bomb The Music Industry! - Scrambles
4. Dan Deacon - Bromst
5. Emmy the Great - First Love
6. RURUTIA - Seirios
7. VA - Dark was the Night
8. P.O.S. - Never Better
9. The Boy Least Likely To - The Law Of The Playground
10. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!
