Alien Boy - Don't Know What I Am

Release Date: August 20th, 2021
Genre: Alternative, emo, shoegaze

Been listening to the first 4 tracks for a while, and when it comes to anything with a hint of emo, I really don't know why certain bands click while the more popular choices do not. The vocals here sounds deflated and I love it

Review
: I'll group the first 4 songs and say they remind me of The Wrens, and Nirvana, and My Bloody Valentine.  Since I had them on repeat, I doubt any of the other tracks will replace it, I just found those four tracks back to back to back to be really nostalgic. On "Dear Nora," I like how clash of sounds it feels and the lyrics basically repeat. I think "Heartburn" is a better example of them being shoegaze because it creates this brain-fog of noise.

"Something Better" has a long intro and I get late 90s alt rock vibes from it. Track 8 is probably the fastest or hardest track here, but it's just noisy to me. Nothing wrong with it. Anyways, I know i'm bad at adjectives so I'll just say this, the band has gained my trust and the last 3 songs, I'm not looking for reasons to like it, I feel like I get it.

Summary
: This band doesn't have a wikipedia page yet, so I hope they don't read this. I found them because of Pitchfork and their album cover looked interesting, and I tend to stay away from alternative music, but Alien Boy is one of those bands that sound like other alternative bands, but since I'm not too deep there, they just click for me.

Key Tracks
: The Way I Feel, Nothing's Enough, Dear Nora
Rating: 8/10
