Release Date: February 4th, 2022
I was shocked when pitchfork gave this best new music because after MPP, everything they released since didn't feel as fresh or original anymore. They still sounded like Animal Collective, but either the music landscaped has changed, or my listening habits changed, or simply, the band had run its course.
Review: so there's only 9 tracks here, the first two sounded like AnCo of the 2010s, but "Prester John" and "Strung with Everything" really bought back that hypnotic trance I used to get from them where they repeat something over and over and the music starts to multiply on you til the bass section really echoes in your bones. I also really like Cherokee. Don't have much to say about the rest because they really do sound like AnCo of the 2010s which is very middle of the road. Although, I kinda want to note that "We Go Back" sounds like an attempt to make a stand alone single and i just think it sucks.
Summary: some good stuff on here, the rest sounds like the AnCo of the 2010s.
Favorite Songs: Prester John, Strung with Everything, Cherokee
Rating: 8/10
